Do I Need a Consultation Before Doing Permanent Makeup?
When making the decision to have permanent makeup done it can be very beneficial to have the artist do a consultation with you regarding the service you would like done. Doing so gives the client the opportunity to get all of her questions answered so she can make an informed decision regarding whether or not she wants to proceed.
Some examples of questions to ask the artist include:
- How long have you been doing permanent makeup?
- How many sets of (service) do you do in an average week or month?
- Are you fully licensed and insured?
- Can I see examples of your most recent work?
Not only will a consultation give you a chance to ask your questions, it will also allow the artist the opportunity to explain – in detail – what to expect the day of the appointment if you chose to move forward.
Some examples of what the artist should explain would include:
- The mapping out/drawing process
- Their numbing process
- What to expect during the tattooing process
- Aftercare expectations
In addition to the benefits mentioned above, a consultation will also give you the opportunity to get a feel for the artist and their space. You need to ensure that you are comfortable with the location, the space, and the artist. Never go into a permanent makeup procedure without feeling as though you are in the best hands; this reassurance often comes from a consultation.
