What is Microblading?
Microblading has been a pretty popular term for the last few years. It has been labeled as “semi-permanent” and sometimes classified as a service that the beauty industry provides. While having your eyebrows done would certainly be considered a “beauty” service, having them microbladed is still a tattoo.
Microblading is done by taking either a hand held tool or a tattoo machine and inserting pigment into the eyebrow area in an effort to make your eyebrows look like real hair. Microblading IS a tattoo, regardless of what you may have heard or read in the past. It tends to fade out faster than a body art tattoo simply because the face is exposed to much more and hardly ever covered up. Microblading has been labeled as “semi-permanent” because it fades faster, but it is, in fact, a tattoo.
If you are considering microblading, there are some things you should consider in regards to your skin in order to get the most out of your experience:
- Your skin type. Oily skin tends to cause microblading to fade out faster, as well as blur the look of the hairstrokes. If you have oily skin, microblading is typically not a good option.
- Skin maturity. The maturity of your skin can also indicate if microblading is a good option. Women of a variety of age ranges get their eyebrows tattooed, but more mature skin may not be a good option if the skin is very thin, as it could possibly damage it.
- Health of Your Skin. Your skin is your largest organ; therefore, if it’s not well taken care of, your microblading could end up blurred or ashy. A specific example would be if you are in the sun a lot without some sort of sun protection. Another example would be if your skin is dehydrated.
If any of the above factors resonate with you, it will be important for you to have a consultation with your permanent makeup artist before committing. Doing so will give you a good understanding of realistic results based on the factors above. In addition, ask to see a lot of before/after photos of work done by the permanent makeup artist, as well as healed results of skin types like yours.
